Kyrie Eleison

In today's SSS, Will invites us to reflect on the lyrics of "Kyrie Eleison" by Chris Tomlin, Jason Ingram, Matt Maher, and Matt Redman. The phrase "Kyrie eleison" is Greek for "Lord, have mercy" and is often followed by "Christe eleison" or "Christ, have mercy." The pairing of "Kyrie Eleison" and "Christe eleison" has been used in various ways by many Christian denominations and has been in the Book of Common Prayer since 1552. As Will points out in his video, "Kyrie eleison" has been a part of worship music for centuries including the early 1700s in Bach's compositions. Now we get to hear a modern take on this traditional phrase as Will performs Chris Tomlin, Jason Ingram, Matt Maher, and Matt Redman's version of "Kyrie Eleison."
