Who Wants a Free Lunch?

Starting this Sunday and for the next five Sundays, we as a worshipping community will hear the entirety of chapter 6 in the Gospel of John.

Chapter 6 is often called the Bread of Life discourse and chapter 6 contains stories of God's provision - both material and spiritual. The feeding of the five thousand with enough bread and fish to have leftovers, and Jesus himself as the Bread of Heaven, the Bread of Life.

God knows our material needs - our hunger, thirst, need for healing and health, shelter, community. God knows our spiritual needs better than we know them ourselves - our spiritual hunger, our longing for authentic relationship with God and one another, for beloved community, where all are welcome, all are loved, all are known.

What do you make of your own needs both spiritual and material? Which needs do you find yourself praying to God for most often? What is the relationship between your material needs - your physical hunger - and the deepest longings of your soul - your spiritual hunger?

Pray with John 6 and see what you discover.
