10,000 Opportunities

10,000 opportunities to be present, to be present to God with us and in us.

Each day presents us with such opportunities to be still and know God ever more fully.

"In the morning, while it was still very dark, Jesus got up and went out to a deserted place and there he prayed." (Mark 1:35)

How can we still ourselves, still our minds, still our bodies, so that we may hear God? How can we still ourselves, when we have so much to do, carry so much worry, hold so much anxiety?

Like Jesus, we, too need silence. Silence. Openness. Receptive silence, so that we may hear God’s invitation to call us home, home to God’s own heart.

Whether you have tried mediation, mindfulness, centering prayer practices in the past and given up or you have a long-standing practice with which you begin each day, I invite you today to allow yourself space and time to spend in silence with God, and welcome each worry, each nagging thought, as another opportunity to return to the heart of God.

I am praying with you and for you, always.

Peace,
Amy

If you are new to Centering Prayer, I recommend you explore the rich resources and opportunities to pray in community found at www.contemplativeoutreach.org.

If you have experience with meditation and are interested in reflecting on its relationship to Christian faith and practice, I recommend exploring the teaching and writing of Christian mystic and Episcopal priest Cynthia Bourgeault at www.cynthiabourgeault.org

If you are curious about the early Christian hermits of ancient Egypt and Syria known as the Desert Mothers and Fathers, former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams has a beautiful book about these early saints called Where God Happens: Discovering Christ in One Another.
