“Be Still and Know” with Kristofer

“Be Still and Know…”

In today’s reflection, Kristofer invites us to ponder stillness in this last week of Advent. Even as we wait and prepare in this season, it is easy to get swept up in the cultural currents of customs and consumerism. The appointed Psalm (46) for today directs us to “be still and know that” God is God and that we are not. This realization can release us from unnecessary pressures and expectations. Praying with this passage can enable us to slow down enough to see how Christ is coming and in fact already present among us.

As we gather at St Francis this night for the Longest Night Compline service, we have an opportunity to recognize our grief and even make room for lamentation. Not everything about the holidays brings comfort and joy, and so practices like these give us permission to name those challenges. Sometimes making time to do so can help us enter the upcoming time of Christmas with space within our heart for God’s love to incarnate us anew.

Be still. Be still and know that God is with you.
