Bible Study: Genesis Old and New
Bible Study: Genesis: Belonging to God's Good
The Rev. Dr. Amy Slaughter Myers will lead a 7-part study on the book of Genesis beginning on Sunday, February 26 at 9:00 AM in the Common Room. (If you prefer to join virtually, please email Amy for the Google Meet link.)
This study looks at stories in the Book of Genesis through the lens of old and new; the tension of longing to go back to the old familiar while also being called into the mysterious and unknown new. Each session will include a brief video from a different theologian on the text, time to build relationship with one another, time to pray and reflect on the text in our lives as individuals and as community, and take-home opportunities to go deeper in the text and in prayer. This Bible Study is designed by the team of Church Anew, a ministry of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Minnesota with many partners, including the Episcopal Church in Minnesota. You can learn more about Church Anew here.
Bible Study: Genesis meets Sundays February 26, March 12, March 19, March 26, April 2, April 23, April 30. All are welcome for one, for a few or for all. No preparation necessary.
Our first gathering will focus on Genesis 3. (You can read it here.) We will listen and reflect with the Rev. Meta Herrick Carlson who encourages us to think about the importance of boundaries, the dangers of striving for perfection instead of being satisfied with 'enough,' and how God pushes us out of Eden and into the real world - to relationships and community.
Our second gathering will focus on Genesis 4:1-16 The Breath of God. In the story of Cain and Abel, there are two brothers who have different relationships with the land. One is connected; one is consumed. The Rev. Tyler Sit will help us wonder about what happens when our identity gets tangled up with what we produce and when toxic masculinity threatens our relationships and connection to the land.
