Kristofer and Letting Go and Trusting God

Letting Go and Trusting God

Kristofer’s reflection today comes from Genesis 22 - the assigned reading for the day in the 100 Day Summer Reading Plan. It is hard to wrap your mind around this passage and the unthinkable task that Abraham is asked to do in the sacrifice of his son Isaac. While it all turns out well in the end, this is a very uncomfortable and challenging text to wrestle with. What is God up to here? How are we called to respond? In this story, Abraham is asked to let go of that which he has most longed for. He is asked to trust God, even when it seems to go against everything he wants and needs. This pattern of letting go and trusting is at the foundation of the spiritual life and it is at the foundation of the story of God and God’s people. As we continue this journey forward together, what are we being called to let go of? How are we being called to trust? Who are we being called to become?
