Still Remembering the Day After with Kristofer
Still Remembering the Day After
Today Kristofer shares a reflection on Memorial Day, as he ponders the words of the psalmist after a weekend of remembrance. There are so many ways that we remember those who have died in service to their country. In this video meditation, Kristofer wrestles with the reality of suicide among service men and women. As he remembers a friend who died, he shares a story of hope and meaning making. When we feel most alone, God suffers with us, knows our pain, and strengthens us on the journey of recovery. Where do we find hope when we are overcome with “grief and sorrow”? How do we learn to “walk in the presence of the Lord in the land of the living” even when we struggle?
Psalm 116:1-9
I love the Lord, because he has heard the voice of my supplication, *
because he has inclined his ear to me whenever I called upon him.
The cords of death entangled me;
the grip of the grave took hold of me; *
I came to grief and sorrow.
Then I called upon the Name of the Lord: *
"O Lord, I pray you, save my life."
Gracious is the Lord and righteous; *
our God is full of compassion.
The Lord watches over the innocent; *
I was brought very low, and he helped me.
Turn again to your rest, O my soul, *
for the Lord has treated you well.
For you have rescued my life from death, *
my eyes from tears, and my feet from stumbling.
I will walk in the presence of the Lord *
in the land of the living.
I believed, even when I said,
"I have been brought very low." *
In my distress I said, "No one can be trusted."
