Woman, you are set free from your ailment (Luke 13: 12)

How do you prepare for worship? Do you have a practice that sets your mind, heart, soul and strength on God as you enter into communal worship?

I typically pray through the Gospel appointed for that Sunday before I worship with you all.

This Sunday's Gospel passage is Luke 13: 10-17, a section that opens with Jesus healing a woman disabled by a spirit for eighteen years. (Luke 13:11)

Unlike other healing stories in the Gospels, it is Jesus who is drawn to this woman; it is Jesus who approaches her and sets [her] free. The text does not record her asking for that healing or saying anything at all to Jesus. Jesus sees her - sees something in her - and heals her, sets her free.

What do you hope Jesus sees in you today? What do you hope Jesus sees - in your heart, your soul, your spirit, your life - today? What do you hope Jesus sets you free from today?
