St. Francis Spiritual Sustenance : November 2, 2022 =====================================

Sanctify [this bread and this wine] by your Holy spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in Christ. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace...

Priests say these words of prayer and consecration over the bread and the wine when the body of Christ is gathered together and preparing to share communion. These particular words come from one of four Eucharistic prayers in the Book of Common Prayer.

Eucharist, the Lord's Supper, Holy Communion, Divine Liturgy, Mass, the Great Offering...these are all names for the ancient practice of sharing the bread and the wine in thanksgiving to God.

Spend some time in prayer today thinking about your experience of receiving communion. Ask God to show you something new that God is doing for you, with you, and in you as you give thanks and receive. Amen.
