The Most Important Word in the Bible

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The Word was with God in the beginning. (John 1:1-2)

Before there was anything, the opening of the Gospel of John tells us, there was the divine with

Each human being made in the image and likeness of God is made to be in relationship with God and with one another

The Rev. Dr. Sam Wells suggests in an article (you can read it here) that the most important word in the Bible is with. In many ways we want the most important word in the Bible to be for. We want to do for one another. We even want to do for God. Doing for others is so much easier than simply being with others - being in relationship - yet that is what we are called to do as Christians. God doesn't promise that God will do things for us. God promises that God will be with us no matter what until the end of the age.

How do you think about doing for and being with? How does this show up in your life?
