As we begin a new year, St. Francis Episcopal Parish & Community Center is happy to resume our Sunday School for children, youth, and adults. After our holiday pause, we return to this shared space of learning, conversation, and faith-building, where different generations walk together and grow together.
Sunday School at St. Francis is not only about classes or preparation for sacraments. It is a place to ask questions, to learn the story of Jesus and the Church, and to discover how faith speaks to our lives today.
Christian formation is the way the Church hands on what she has received: the Scriptures, the story of Jesus, the sacraments, the life of prayer, and the call to love God and neighbor. It is where children begin to discover who God is, where teenagers learn to connect faith with real life, and where adults deepen or rediscover what it means to believe. Formation is not only about information; it is about transformation—learning to see ourselves, others, and the world in the light of Christ.
As Episcopalians, our formation is shaped by a particular way of being Church. We often describe ourselves as walking a “middle way” (via media). This does not mean being vague or halfway committed. It means we are catholic but not Roman—treasuring the sacraments, the ancient creeds, the liturgy, and the continuity of the historic Church. And we are also reformed but not Protestant—shaped by the call to return to Scripture, to worship in the language of the people, and to trust that God continues to renew the Church. Our Sunday School reflects this identity: rooted in the ancient faith and open to honest questions, diverse cultures, and the living work of the Holy Spirit.
This spring, we continue two Sunday School paths. One is for children ages 7–12, preparing to receive Holy Communion (First Communion / Primera Comunión). The other is for youth ages 12–17, preparing for Confirmation and Reception, and it is also open to young adults and adults who wish to explore or revisit the foundations of Christian faith.
We meet every other Sunday at 10:00 am. Classes are offered bilingual (English and Spanish), generally conducted in English, with care to include and support all participants.

First Communion is expected during Holy Week,

Whether you are bringing a child, accompanying a teenager, or seeking to grow yourself, Sunday School at St. Francis is an invitation to enter more deeply into a faith that is thoughtful, sacramental, compassionate, and centered on Christ.

Escuela Dominical en St. Francis: Continuamos el camino de la fe
Al comenzar un nuevo año, St. Francis Episcopal Parish & Community Center se alegra de reanudar nuestra Escuela Dominical para niños, jóvenes y adultos. Después de la pausa de las fiestas, regresamos a este espacio compartido de aprendizaje, diálogo y crecimiento en la fe, donde distintas generaciones caminan juntas y crecen juntas.
La Escuela Dominical en St. Francis no se trata solo de clases o de preparación para recibir sacramentos. Es un espacio para hacer preguntas, conocer la historia de Jesús y de la Iglesia, y descubrir cómo la fe ilumina nuestra vida hoy.
La formación cristiana es la manera en que la Iglesia transmite lo que ha recibido: las Escrituras, la historia de Jesús, los sacramentos, la vida de oración y el llamado a amar a Dios y al prójimo. Es donde los niños comienzan a descubrir quién es Dios, donde los adolescentes aprenden a unir la fe con la vida real, y donde los adultos profundizan o redescubren lo que significa creer. La formación no es solo información; es transformación: aprender a mirarnos a nosotros mismos, a los demás y al mundo a la luz de Cristo.
Como episcopales, nuestra formación está marcada por una manera particular de ser Iglesia. A menudo decimos que caminamos un “camino intermedio” (via media). Esto no significa ser tibios o indefinidos. Significa que somos católicos pero no romanos: valoramos los sacramentos, los credos antiguos, la liturgia y la continuidad de la Iglesia histórica. Y también somos reformados pero no protestantes: marcados por el llamado a volver a la Escritura, a orar en la lengua del pueblo y a confiar en que Dios sigue renovando a su Iglesia. Nuestra Escuela Dominical refleja esta identidad: arraigada en la fe antigua y abierta a preguntas honestas, a diversas culturas y a la obra viva del Espíritu Santo.
Esta primavera continuamos dos caminos de Escuela Dominical. Uno es para niños de 7 a 12 años, que se preparan para recibir la Primera Comunión. El otro es para jóvenes de 12 a 17 años, que se preparan para la Confirmación y Recepción, y también está abierto a jóvenes adultos y adultos que desean explorar o profundizar en las bases de la fe cristiana.
Nos reunimos domingo por medio a las 10:00 am. Las clases se ofrecen de manera bilingüe (inglés y español), y generalmente se desarrollan en inglés, procurando siempre incluir y acompañar a todos.

26 de abril: Confirmación en la Catedral de la Encarnación
La Primera Comunión se celebrará durante la Semana Santa, posiblemente el Jueves Santo, 2 de abril.
Ya sea que traigas a un niño, acompañes a un adolescente o busques crecer tú mismo en la fe, la Escuela Dominical en St. Francis es una invitación a entrar más profundamente en una fe reflexiva, sacramental, compasiva y centrada en Cristo.
