Amy and “Worship the Lord in the Beauty of Holiness”
Worship the Lord in the Beauty of Holiness
Ascribe to the Lord the honor due his Name;
bring offerings and come into his courts.
Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness;
let the whole earth tremble before him. (Ps 96: 8-9)
There are countless moments in Christian history and tradition when the Church has embraced tools and technology in service to its mission of loving God and loving neighbor. Think about it: at one time even the book was a new technology. Now many of us can't imagine worship without books. Or candles. Or plates (patens) and cups (chalices) and napkins (purificators)...
Due to COVID-19 the ministry of Technical Verger has grown exponentially. COVID -19 will continue to impact on the Church and its worshipping practices. Likely the Church won't know for decades how profound the impact will be. (And if you don't fully understand what Technical Vergers do, watch Amy's video).
How can St. Francis continue to worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness? What tools and technology can help us to do that now? Are the ancient forms of ministry in the sanctuary being opened up in new ways? How do we as a worshipping community discern and lead others into deeper relationship with God and neighbor? Might you be called to this work of prayer and discernment at this time?
