When You Witness an Injustice

At St. Francis, we find purpose and focus in the prophetic call of Micah who reminds us of what the Lord requires: "to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God" (6:8). As we seek to align our Parish & Community Center as well as our own lives with this mission, what do we do when we encounter a violation of these core values of justice, love, mercy, and humility in our day-to-day lives?

Today, Kristofer's video shares an experience of how he and other staff and volunteers from St. Francis are wrestling with an instance of just that. While this reflection is a little different than the usual SSS videos, we believed that it was an important experience to share with our wider community. The letter he wrote and read is a window into one aspect of the vital work we are doing to support families that are facing homelessness. You can click here to download the letter he reads in the video.

While we normally highlight positive stories, this is a powerful example of the barriers that we encounter and have to work through in order to fulfill our mission. Please feel free to contact Kristofer at revklp@stfrancismd.org, if you want to learn more about the work of our Community Center.
