About Me:
Called to the priesthood at age 19 and argued with God about it until age 40. In between that, I worked every other job I could find, from newspaper delivery, receptionist at a car dealership, box office at an arthouse movie theater, waffle cone chef at an Italian gelato bar, assistant at a clinical services program serving people with Autism, and founding staff at a national non-profit advocacy organization. I also learned four languages, studied at universities in New York, North Carolina, Philadelphia, Vienna, and Berlin, and earned a Ph.D. in eighteenth century comparative literature. I moved to Baltimore in 1993, met and married a fellow teaching assistant at Johns Hopkins University named Paul Myers and had three children. I began serving the Episcopal Church in a professional capacity in 2003 as Lay Canon for Justice and Outreach at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Baltimore. I live with my family, two pugs, two cats and a hamster in Baltimore.

My Role:
I am Rector of St. Francis Episcopal Parish and Community Center, with a day-to-day focus on the life, health and ministry of the congregation. I am deeply mission-driven and passionate about nurturing each of us as individuals, and our parish community as a whole, in living out our daily call from God to make ever more manifest God’s reign on earth as it is in heaven – in worship, care for one another, service and justice, and study.

My Dream for St. Francis:
To be a community committed to learning and growing in ever deeper relationship with God and one another, guided by the values of reconciliation, peacemaking, love and justice for all people. My dream for Saint Francis is to be a community that lives out its values in everything it does from the smallest one-on-one interactions to the grandest liturgies to the increasing numbers of people unstably housed seeking support.

A Few of my Favorite Things:
Hobby: Crossword Puzzler and Shirker of Household Duties
Book/Movie/TV Show: I love stories with crusading journalists, flawed detectives, and complicated women. So I just finished binging Mare of Easttown on HBO – it has all three.

Fun fact:
I first trained as an actor, beginning a professional career at age 7 in an outdoor drama in Cherokee, North Carolina called Unto These Hills. It’s still going. You can watch a 30-second trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBkE7oBZdv0
