Amy and “Swift Messengers”

SSS

Go, swift messengers, go to this people (Is 18:2 MSG)

It's Day 11 on St. Francis Advent Calendar. You can find the calendar on our website, stfrancismd.org/advent-calendar-2021, Facebook page, or Instagram. Each day we will share the day’s #AdventWord from AdventWord.org, Way of Love reflection from the Episcopal Church, and an activity that may be a craft or an invitation to celebrate with community.

Let us pray.

Merciful God who sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation: give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins, that we may greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ our Redeemer who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Sprit one God now and forever. Amen.

In our everyday language, we hear the expression "don't shoot the messenger." That usage implies that the messenger is bringing bad news and that the messengers themselves will be punished for that bad news they bring. In Scripture God's messengers the prophets bring Good News - the best News - that you and all people are made in the image of God, in God's love, for loving one another and God. Look today for God's messengers of this love in your life. Amen.
